It was also recognized that the provisions relating to free trade agreements (for example. B workers` rights, intellectual property, allocation and regulation of public services) can have social consequences that may be gender-specific. Several interviewees pointed out that women were financially disadvantaged in the labour market, and many people were concerned about trade liberalization, which widens the gender pay gap. It was also called for any UK free trade agreement to protect and promote strong workers` rights and respect international obligations on gender equality and other human rights. Some NGO actors called for monitoring the gender impact over time and conducting impact assessments covering issues such as gender equality, human rights, workers` rights, the environment and the economic impact of trade agreements in the UK and third countries. Many NGOs have also indicated that civil society should be closely involved in these issues. On July 20, 2018, the Department of International Trade (DIT) launched a public consultation to seek advice on a possible free trade agreement with Australia.
